- Make ready 1 cup coarse rice
- Get 100 grams Soaked chana dal

Almost every household has their version of Undrallu and obviously the one I am sharing today is our family recipe and this is how my mom makes it. For every Andhra home, the must-have naivedyam on Vinayaka Chavithi is Undrallu. Also called Kudumulu, these steamed rice rava and chana dal balls are said to be Vinayaka's favourite. Undrallu are perhaps my father's favourite festival food item.
Instructions to make Undrallu:
- Assemble the ingredients together.
- Place a vessel, add ghee 1 tbsp to it. After heating do tadka with jeera, next add curry leaves then add soaked chana dal, after frying for 2 to 3 minutes, add 3 cups of water to it.
- Also add salt to the boiling water..After boiling for 2 minutes in medium flame. Now add coarse rice(rice is dry grinded in Mixie jar till uneven coarse,Rava texture). And cook in simmer until done. Switch off after it's cooked. Let it cool. Make round balls with it. And steam for 12 minutes in idling cooker. Undrallu are ready.

Undrallu or Rava Kudumulu, Modak, Modakam, Uppu Kozhukattai, Upma Kozhukattai, Pidi Kozhukattai….however you name it, this is one among the various Kudumulu varieties. These are prepared with little variation from the savory rice balls called as plain or uppukudumulu. In a bowl, add rice flour and grated jaggery and mix well.
