Instructions to make Yellow peas curry or Manipuri style Mangal Ooti:
- Soak overnight yellow peas or for 4 to 5 hours.
- Firstly drain the soaked water. Now in a pressure cooker add fresh water as required, peas and salt. Cook on medium heat until 2 whistle. After that switch off the heat.
- Take a pan, add cooking oil and let it heat, then add bay leaf, cumin seeds, asafoetida dry red chilli. Then add grated ginger, chillies, onion. Saute and stir fry until brown.
- Then add tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder, salt. Stir and mix well. Cover it with a lid and let it cook for about 3 to 4 minutes.
- Then add boiled peas and mix nicely. Add warm water as needed and let it cook on low heat for 6 to7 minutes.
- Then switch off the heat. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and onion. It's ready to serve.
